Generation 1:

Hans Christian Unknown (Jacobs)
b. abt. 1815 in Prussia
d. in Prussia (Braunschweig, Germany)
m. abt. 1840 in Prussia to
Anna Marie Unknown
b. abt. 1822 in Prussia (Braunschweig, Germany)
d. abt. 1870 in St. Louis County, MO
Their issue Generation 2.
Notes: Unsure if the family name was actually Jacobs or if it was changed when his son Hans/Henry & mother arrived in the New World.  A descendant claims the name was changed.

Anna brought at least one of her children to the New World.

Generation 2:

1. Henry (Hans) Christian Jacobs
b. 1843 in Braunschweig, Germany
d. 02/22/1896 in Fenton, St. Louis Co., MO
b. Enon Baptist Churchyard in Lenox, Dent Co., MO
m. 03/18/1877 in Monroe Co., IL to
Anna Marie “Ann/Annie” Copeland
b. 03/1862 in IL
d. abt. 1925 in ? Texarkana, Miller Co., AR OR Texarkana, Bowie Co., TX ?
Their issue, Generation 3.
Notes for Henry: His German name was Hans Christian Jacobs.
Henry was a private in Co. F, 8th Regiment, MO Infantry in the Civil War.  Enlisted 07/25/1861 in St. Louis Co., MO, deserted 07/29/1865 at Little Rock, AR.
Tombstone inscription: "Civil War Co. Inf. Mo. Cav."
Henry was a cobbler (shoe maker & repair).
It is unknown what brought Henry to the New World.  Family lore had it that his mother brought him over from Germany at the age of 12 to keep him out of the Prussian Army.  This has not been proven & several genealogist think this is incorrect info.  Another descendant says his parents were somehow in or connected with the Prussian Royal Family.  This has not been proven.
It is more than likely Henry had siblings left in Prussia & likely a few came to America with him & his mother.
When Henry & Anna were too sick to take care of the younger children, they were placed in the Illinois Soldier’s & Sailor’s Children’s School (ISSCS), which was originally Illinois Solder’s Orphan’s Home in Normal, IL (between St. Louis & Chicago).
Notes for Anna: In the 1880 census she states both parents born in OH.
Anna remarried to Orren T. Floyd in 1907/08.
In the 1910 census Anna states her father was born in IL, her mother in IN.  It also states she gave birth to 8 children, 5 living (it is yet unknown if the other 2 children I have unlisted were Jacobs or Floyd).
Anna is not listed in the Arkansas OR Texas Death Record Indexes.
In Anna's marriage record, her mother is listed as Rebecca Rogers.  In Rebecca's marriage record to Martin Rogers, she is listed as Rebecca Pate.  It is unknown what happened to Rebecca or Mr. Rogers.  It is also unknown what happened to Mr. Copeland.
It is also unknown what happened to Anna.  One descendant says she died about 1925 in Texarkana.  They did not specify if it was the Arkansas or Texas side.  Her grandson Robert Arthur "Bob" Jacobs states she lived with his father, Henry Arthur Jacobs in the Texarkana area about that time.  I found his brother Augustus & wife there in the 1920 census.

Emma Grace & Henry are the paternal great-grandparents of your author.  Marriage record images for Gracie to Henry, Jesse & Adell are on family file. I cannot locate a marriage record for Emma Grace Boles to Floyd Poole, but it was in Tennessee. She was 13!  She was a mother of two at 18 years old when she married Henry. In their marriage licence it states Henry & Gracie were both from Tupelo, Jackson Co, AR. I was previously told by their daughter Henrietta (my grandmother) that they were married 1923 in Bebe, White Co., AR. With the discovery of the marriage licence we now know that was incorrect.
Emma Grace's third husband was Jesse Mann, whom she was married but a short time. Emma Grace & Jesse divorced & Jesse married her daughter Henrietta.  Jesse's birth info comes from his marriage licence to Emma Grace, which is taken more as factful than any info given at his death, as his children really didn't know.
I had been previously listing her place of birth as Roddy, Rhea Co., TN as her daughter Henrietta told me that Emma Grace was born in Roddy Glenn, TN. On her marriage licence to Jesse Mann she states she was born in Spring City, TN. That is what is now listed. Interesting to note that she also lied about her age by 6 years, stating she was 30 marring a 22 year old, when in fact she was 36.
Gracie was quite the character. She had some kind of earth spiritualism that some called witchcraft, but was more in fact like shamanism, or old fashioned wives cures for common ailments. She could but a wart from you for a penny & she could tell the sex of a baby in the womb. With indian ancestry in her I'm sure the women in her family passed down stories & hill country remidies.  She grew beautiful roses & other flowers in addition to bountiful vegitable gardens.  She could be mean & controlling at times & she had a temper, but if she liked you, you were like part of the family. She liked to move around alot, and was social. She liked to go out, although not always to the best places. She finally settled in a little house on Smart Street in Pine Bluff, AR. She had a stroke & passed from this life at Jefferson Regional Hospital in Pine Bluff.
